“Organisational culture is the sum of values and rituals which serve as ‘glue’ to integrate the members of the organisation.” — Richard Perrin
Organisational cultures provide, promote and reinforce an organisation’s values, beliefs and visions. We believe that having a resilient culture and structure are as important for an organisation as having a resilient workforce. In particular, structural resilience will enable you to transform and innovate working practices. If resilient employees are all interpreting reality in the same way, their decisions and actions will be focussed, more effective and will enhance the performance of the organisation.
We offer support to identify, understand and develop business strategies and plans as well as developing a company’s ability to cope with change, giving your organisation a clear, sustainable, competitive advantage.
“The most dangerous phrase in the English language is ‘We’ve always done it this way’” Rear Admiral Grace Hooper
One of the challenges for people undergoing development is the fact that the impact of their learning is diffused by the ‘barriers’ within their culture. One manager described it as taking fish from a polluted pond, cleaning them up, making them well again (the development process) but when returned to their habitat, they were returning to the polluted pond. A “polluted” workplace ensures that the likelihood of creating transformation is limited and even basic learning embedding is restricted.
The challenge is in building change, structural resilience or even process improvement. A culture needs to develop to allow change to take hold. Resilient cultures allow for this – they attract resilient people and allow for change to be seen as a natural part of business improvement.
