Stoke recovery, Finding the answers.
Marcia Moran spent much of her working career building her own successful business consultancy, Performance Architect. She then co-founded Positive Business DC. Life was going to plan when in 2014, with no warning, she suffered a major stroke and was rushed to hospital.
The stroke left her unable to walk and with aphasia. After she was stabilised, Marcia's stroke recovery began. She spent two weeks in a rehabilitation hospital, followed by six weeks of daily treatment at home and two months of outpatient therapy. She then worked with a physical therapist for a year.
Marcia used her planning and strategy skills in her stroke recovery. Over time she learnt to walk again but she still couldn't speak well. She joined Toastmasters International to help her regain her speaking abilities. This helped but in 2017 a technological breakthrough really helped minimise her speech disability.
Marcia's driver for writing 'Stroke Forward' was that she could not find the information she needed to help her recovery. She decided that by sharing her experiences she could give a message of hope to stroke survivors and their families. Marcia now lives in Washington and feels that becoming her own mental health advocate and using holistic healing methods helped her with her stroke recovery.
