The latest episode in our Resilience Unravelled series has now been released, Resilience Unravelled – Laugh or Cry? Comedy and Mental Health.
In this episode, Dr. Russell Thackeray talks to King Frank King, The Mental Health Comedian. Frank was a writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for over twenty years but now uses comedy and his personal life lessons to help engage with those struggling with mental and emotional stability.
Depression and suicide run Frank’s family and he thought about killing himself on several occasions, but he has addressed his own battle with depression and now uses his experiences as he speaks on mental health and suicide prevention issues. His mission is to end the stigma surrounding mental health, and influence the general public to ‘start the conversation’.
In this podcast, Frank talks about how he started his career in comedy, his move into the speaker circuit and then into training and how he uses his own life experiences to create a sense of support and understanding for those who struggle, and those who support them. He also talks about living with chronic suicidality, and how that affects even the most normal of everyday circumstances.
