Barbie Wharton - Losing the illusion. Dealing with Bells Palsy.
Barbie Wharton is a speaker, writer, dance event boss, Mum and survivor of Bell’s Palsy. Barbie started dancing in 5th Grade but made her career in upper management before having her two sons. She then started a team apparel company and worked with her mother and sister producing dance competitions across Western Canada. In 2020 the business closed due to Covid-19 but Barbie has now started her own company, B1 Dance Productions. She has suffered from Bells Palsy, a condition that causes a temporary weakness or paralysis of the muscles in the face, since 2015. It came on very suddenly and she realised what a traumatising and emotionally terrifying thing it is. Because there wasn’t a lot of information available she decided to set up Bellspalsytalk.com, a community where people can come together and talk to other people who are going through the same thing. In this podcast:
Barbie discusses why she wasn’t ready to let the dance world go and needed to get back up and try again!
The need to speak up and use her voice
Losing her illusion of what her life should look like.
