Living an authentic life
Andi Maratos is the CEO of Chrysalis, a charity that supports transgender and questioning people and their families and close friends. Chrysalis is based in Southampton and covers the Hampshire and Dorset area. It provides workshops, facilitated groups and one-to-one counselling as well as advocacy, training, peer mentoring and networking services.
Andi thinks that the best way of understanding what its like to be transgender is not to imagine wanting to be the opposite gender, but to imagine not being seen as the person you are. In this podcast Andi gives some background to what trans means, the difference between gender and sexuality and why we need to separate gender expression and gender identity.
One of the services Chrysalis provides is training to help people become more informed in the workplace. Andi talks about the importance of listening as well as the best ways to provide practical support.
