Kathy Hagler - Healing from wounds. The Art of Scars.

Kathy Hagler partners with organsations through good times, crises, challenges, and obstacles, and helps to move their culture, climate, and character forward with clear vision, strategic intent, and success in an everchanging world. Mentored by both Dr. Peter Drucker and Dr. W. Edwards Deming, she is herself, a pioneer in the field of organisational development. Kathy  says that organisations are similar to human beings - both have wounds – and like people, organisations break and can heal.

We all carry wounds in our bodies, minds, and spirits that can hinder our lives at work and at home. Using her own journey and the philosophy of wabi-sabi, Kathy helps transform organisations by building character, trustworthiness, and resilience. Japanese kintsugi is the perfect metaphor for her work. Kintsugi is an art form that re-joins broken shards of inexpensive—and often ugly—pottery with gold filament to create a unique and elevated version of the original vessel. This new vase owes its beauty entirely to its scars.

Kathy pinpoints the roots of pain, suffering, and distress in an organisation and its people, and offers strategies to repair the damage. In this podcast:

  • Kathy explains the similarities between organisations and people and how they can both break and heal

  • How she uses the Japanese art of Kinstugi or "gold joinery” as a metaphor for healing scars

  • Why culture drives every aspect of development, learning, execution, and reflection.
